in a nutshell, what keeps most jw's together (and the group as a religion) is the validation of their own ideas.

many researchers are well aware that in 1972 watchtower flipped and flopped on its teaching of whether homosexual cheating by a marriage mate was fornication; hence grounds for divorce.
Basically what the Jan 1, 1972 Watchtower is saying is that at one time the thinking was that a JW man could have sex with a donkey and come away with private reproof and his wife has to take him back..........Bizarre!
No wonder many say that Jehovah's Witnesses is a pedophile's paradise! The GB cater to the freakish and kooky.

here is my understanding of how jws handle disaster situations: they are directed to take care of only jws first.
once all the jws are accounted for and assisted, they will move on to preaching to others in the affected area but not providing any real material assistance to non-believers.. i hope i'm wrong about this.
i have been told by some people that my view is incorrect and that jws are also told to go out into affected communities to provide material assistance to non-believers by providing shelter, water, food, etc.
One thing is for sure. WTBTS profits from natural disasters. When disaster strikes $$$$$ roll into the WT Headquarters.
The Society discourages, big time, its members from donating to reputable charitable organizations that are designed to help disaster victims. But instead tells the R & F by way of announcement at the Service Meeting to simply make checks payable to WTBTS Worldwide Work and not to specify on the check how the money is to be used.
Never, ever have I heard a follow up letter read from the platform accounting for how contributions collected for disaster relief cases such as Katrina or The Haiti Earthquake were used. The Watchtower feels no obligation to have to reveal to congregation members how their disaster relief donations are spent.
That is an outrage! That is greed!
after reading what concerned jw has to say, i gather that for him, if the jw organization is currently making any mistakes, those mistakes do not matter and are not worth naming, not even one.
i am completely baffled by this and would like to understand why a person would take this position.

Damn right they matter! But forget their mistakes for a monemt.
Concentrate on the WT crimes against its members such as sexual abuse that many on this board can attest to. Child abuse and endangerment and the pedephilia problem in many congregations.
The enforced JW disfellowshipping and shunning policy is not a mistake but a crime againt innocent JW multitudes.
How many JWs have died due to the mistaken and unfounded no-blood policy who otherwise could have lived to enjoy life and be with their loved ones today?
It is not the mistakes but the crimes and corruption that spring from WT Headquarters that matter!

Thank you wannabefree. The Oct public magazine edition of the Watchtower is just more evidence the FDS speaks with a forked tongue. You would never, ever expect to see statements like this in the study edition Watchtower. Talk about double standards!
Those statements are what I would call a....'WOW' factor. It really is appalling!
if you've been around here long enough, you will have seen people saying how they "gave up" or "sacrificed" certain things so that they could be good little jws.
what about those of us who were growing up in it and we didn't even have a choice in the matter?
what about those of us from whom some things in life were forcibly ripped away, things that 'normal' people take for granted in their life?.
The WT$ has taken dignity and self-esteem away from tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands!
is "disfellowshipping" proper from a biblical point of view?.
Most people are ready to accept the Bible's way of dealing with unrepentant wrongdoers bent on causing harm to others. Physical and sexual abuse as examples.
However, the JWs are much like the Pharisees who went to the extremes in matters. The JWs fail miserably when it comes to letting the punishment fit the crime!
Also, the JW interpretation of disfellowshipping and shunning is heartless, harsh and down right mean. The dfing and shunning policy carried out by the Elders leaves the sinner individual with zero dignity. Even after reinstatement the individual has to live with a stigma or black mark that followers him for years and years. And all this over a venial or forgivable sin!
